Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Vice Chairman, Khoirudin wants Jakarta residents, especially Muslims, to make the Islamic New Year 1445 Hijri a momentum and optimism to get better.

Worship must be better and concern for others or social worship must also be higher

According to him, the Islamic New Year could not be separated from the events of the hijrah (migration) of Prophet Muhammad from one place to another.

"At this time, we also have to interpret hijrah to change from bad to better, what is already good to even better. What's more, in fact this new year also contains logical consequences of increasing age which also means that our age is decreasing," he expressed, Friday (7/21).

He explained the goodness that must be conducted has two dimensions namely, vertical and horizontal. Vertical means to God and horizontal to fellow human beings.

"Worship must be better and concern for others or social worship must also be higher," he explained.

He went on to say that the month of Muharam is also synonymous with the momentum to honor orphans, especially those who need help. Because, every 10th of Muharram is highly recommended to help orphans, even though in essence this has to be done every time.

"We can make the beginning of this Islamic New Year a momentum to trigger the habit of caring for mustahik (zakat recipients)," he continued.

In 1445 Hijri, it also coincided as a political year. Hence, he advised that this year the community could continue to strengthen ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood) and ukhuwah wathaniyah (brotherhood of the nation).

"The political year is in sight, but it should not make the life of the nation and state cracked, or be problematic and full of tension. Don't let this political year make us divided and full of strife. Everything is essentially for a good cause, worship so the process let's do it well too," he closed.
